Inquires into and determines the cause, manner and circumstances of death in all unnatural, suspicious, unusual, violent, sudden and unattended deaths. The cause of death is determined by investigation, post mortem examination and laboratory testing. The Department is also responsible for correctly identifying the deceased, notifying the legal next of kin, and making proper disposition of remains.
