Program Overview

The Temporary Services Registry (TempLA) program is designed to provide meaningful, on-the-job work experience and soft skills training to local residents in order to help them overcome workforce barriers. Program participants are hired as temporary employees in various departments throughout the County of Los Angeles. The ultimate goal of the program is to help temporary employees gain valuable work experience and obtain permanent employment with the County of Los Angeles or outside of the County, return to school, or join the military.

Who Qualifies?

To qualify, an applicant must hold one of the following certificates:

  • Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Social Services GAIN or GROW Job Services Certificate:
    • GAIN Job Club
    • GAIN Flex Job Club
    • Blueprint for Workplace Success Programs
    • Cell-ED
  • Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), Work Readiness Job Certification of Completion:
    • Job or Work Readiness Training Program (AJCC)
    • Careers for a Cause (C4C)
  • Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Work Readiness Job Certificate of Completion:
    • GROW Job Readiness Training
    • GAIN Job Readiness Training
  • South Bay Department of Mental Health (SA-4 Peer Resource Center) Work Readiness Job Certificate of Completion:
    • Service Area (SA) – 4 Peer Resource Center Work Readiness Training

What to Expect

Once you have obtained an approved work-readiness certificate, you may apply to the Office Support Assistant position. Once you apply, your application will be reviewed by an analyst. If you qualify for the program, you will be invited to take an examination. You will then be placed on a 'band' (or ranked) based upon your examination scores. You may then be called for an interview. Upon successful completion of the interview, you may be offered a contingent offer of employment and begin the onboarding process. Once onboarded, you will then work collaboratively with the TempLA team to find an appropriate work assignment.

What is the TempLA Program?

TempLA was created to help local community individuals who face barriers to employment by providing on-the-job training and valuable work experience.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A WORK READINESS CERTIFICATE?

To obtain a Work Readiness certificate, you may visit the nearest America’s Job Centers (AJCC) or contact your GAIN/GROW worker.

What is a Work Readiness Certificate?

A Work Readiness Certificate will be issued after completing a job readiness orientation/workshop which may include topics such as how to create a resume, interviewing tips, grooming and attire, how to complete an application, and how to prepare a cover letter. It will also provide information
on how to conduct a job search, and how to be ready for a job.

Will I be required to undergo a background clearance?

I applied for the TempLA, Office Support Assistant position, what is the next step?

Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted by the Examinations Unit regarding the next steps in the examination process.

I applied for the TempLA, Intermediate Clerk (IC) position, but my application was denied because I need a TempLA Certificate. How do I obtain this certificate?

To qualify for the TempLA IC position, you need to provide a TempLA Certificate. To obtain a TempLA Certificate, you first need to participate in the TempLA program. Once you have participated in the TempLA Program, you would qualify to obtain a TempLA Certificate to meet the requirements for the IC, TempLA.

I took the examination for the TempLA OSA position, what happens next?

You will be notified of your score, if you successfully passed the examination, you will be added to a Certification List by the order of your score. Once you are reachable, you will be contacted by the TempLA Program team regarding an Intake Interview which is generally conducted by telephone. If you are given a Contingent Employment Offer, you will be requested to complete an onboarding packet which includes a background check, and to complete a release of information form which will include reference checks.

USE A FILTER TO FIND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY JOBS

The quickest way to find available jobs in Information Technology in the County is to create a FILTER in the online Job Search system.

To begin, click the button below to visit the Job Search system.

  1. Once you are in the Job Search system, you will see a FILTER button on the right side of the SEARCH bar in the middle of the page.
  2. Click on JOB CATEGORY. A fly-out menu will appear.
  3. Scroll down the list and click on IT and Computers and/or any of the other technology related job categories available.

NOTE:

  • You can select multiple options WITHIN a Filter category. You may also select multiple filters. For example you can select IT and Computers in Health Services and Fire with a salary of 60,000+.
  • To clear filters, click RESET ALL.
