County Employee Youth Mentoring Program

One informal way the County as an employer seeks to make its mark on the community is through our employee programs. The County’s newest service opportunity for our employees, the Los Angeles County Employee Youth Mentoring Program, was launched this Tuesday through a unanimous vote by the Board. This new volunteer program provides an incredible opportunity to connect the County’s diverse and knowledgeable workforce with youth in need of positive adult role models.

By partnering with well-established mentoring organizations in Los Angeles County, such as the Boys and Girls Club, EmpowHER Institute, Sparks Program, and many others, this valuable program will provide yet another outlet for our workforce to use theirs skills, passion, and commitment to benefit our community. As Supervisor Solis stated, "As mentors, our County employees can influence our future leaders by encouraging our youth to grow more confident of their abilities and have a more expansive view of their potential.”

To read more about this great program or to sign up as a volunteer, visit http://employee.hr.lacounty.gov/county-employee-youth-mentoring.

Free Influenza Vaccines

Protect yourself and others - the flu spreads easily, but the flu shot will help protect you. The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health (DPH) is recommending that all persons 6 months of age and over, including healthy children and adults, receive a flu shot each year.

You can get the flu immunization from your regular health care provider or local pharmacy. Flu immunization is also provided at no-cost or low-cost at Los Angeles County community events, including:

• Los Angeles County Library Free Flu Immunization Clinics
• Community Outreach Flu Vaccination Events
• Public Health Clinics
• Free and Low-Cost Clinics

To support our County employees’ health and wellness, the Department of Human Resources, in partnership with DPH, is offering free onsite flu vaccinations available to all County employees, regardless of their participation in a County-sponsored medical plan. Over 40 onsite vaccination clinics have been scheduled for 2019 across all County departments. County employees are encouraged to click the link below to view the dates, times, and venues of free flu clinics:

Fair Chance Employer

Los Angeles County is a proud fair chance employer. To quote our Director of Personnel, “Fair chance is more than just a feel-good or moral imperative; enterprises and businesses such as LA County stand to benefit greatly. Research has found, and we believe, that formerly incarcerated individuals become hard-working and reliable employees in the workplace…They deserve a fair chance to demonstrate that they can be productive members of the workforce and their communities.”

Along with business leaders and community partners, Los Angeles County has launched a campaign to promote the Fair Chance Hiring Initiative, encouraging businesses to actively hire individuals of the justice-involved community! To learn more about this initiative, visit the Fair Chance website.
