900 Current Planning Division/Impact Analysis Section- Significant Ecological Area (SEA) Document Indexing, Organization, & Analysis The Impact Analysis section has a technical advisory committee - Significant Ecological Area Technical Advisory Committee that reviews planning documents for development in the SEAs of the County. The reports are extensive analyses of possible impacts to biological resources with implementation of a planned development, and they include detailed information on sensitive species and habitats and location of those species. The reports date from about 1980, when the SEA system was adopted, to the present. To make the documents useful, the Department needs to label documents, develop a retrievable storage system, and index the information in the documents for both the resources and the location of the studies. The intern will work with the County Biologist to develop and implement the indexing system. The intern could use the documents for something like a senior thesis or master’s thesis project that tracks planning for a biological resource. This is a chance to experience a government work environment, obtain professional recommendations, and network.
Intern must have college-level credits in biological field disciplines or have considerable experience working in biological field science using biological nomenclature. Volunteer must be proficient in using Microsoft Applications – Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, and have ability to learn basic database functions. Internet research experience is a plus. Candidates must have good familiarity with biological nomenclature, be able to spell specie’s names correctly, and be able to recognize misspellings in the documents. Some familiarity with local geography will be a plus, and ability to use maps will be necessary.

The Intern will also help with security training as we begin to make the training within DHS electronic.  The intern will also learn how to conduct audits and learn how to oversee various security actions that are being conducted at our various DHS hospitals.

The intern will travel to SYEP Work Site locations and Youth Centers throughout Los Angeles County to record/film and interview youth, mentors and staff as they perform their jobs and are engaged in program related activities.  The project will involve planning, filming, editing and packaging final product in video format.  The interns will also interview and consult with county employees, officials, and program staff on matters related to the Los Angeles County WIA/ARRA SYEP.  Candidates must have access to personal, college or university equipment and technology required to shoot, edit and deliver final visual product.

751 Senior Services Intern Students will work with seniors in coordinating and conducting senior activities.  They will be responsible for developing and/or coordinating programs in one or more of the following areas: arts & crafts, music, drama, dance, fitness and/or other classes for self-sufficient seniors, and will assist in the set-up and breakdown of all program implementation.  The interns will coordinate the scheduling of these classes, the participation of the seniors, and will complete follow-up documentation with the residents.

751 Senior Services Intern Work with seniors in coordinating and conducting senior activities.  Interns will be responsible for developing and/or coordinating programs in one or more of the following areas: arts & crafts, music, drama, dance, fitness and/or other classes for self-sufficient seniors, and will assist in the set-up and breakdown of all program implementation.  The interns will coordinate the scheduling of these classes, the participation of the seniors, and will complete follow-up documentation with the residents.
